Kyu Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: In hip Wynwood, Kyu offers exactly what you'd expect from Zuma alums Michael Lewis and Steven Haigh: refined Asian fare in an unruffled and relaxed environment.
Food & Drinks: An open kitchen allows a view of the centerpiece of the restaurant, its wood grill, from which sizzling Florida red snapper doused in brown butter white-miso, Korean fried chicken with butter braised chicory, and Thai fried rice stone pot are fired. The family-style menu also beckons with plenty of crowd-pleasing Asian snacks like pork belly buns; roasted cauliflower with goat cheese and shishito-herb vinaigrette; one of the best beef tartares in town thanks to its piquant Japanese mustard vinaigrette; and crispy-spicy hamachi tartare. A handful of smoked dishes lets the proteins do most of the talking, though Lewis excels at cooking everything from duck breast to baby-back ribs yakiniku style. Choose from a number of veggies to accompany the meats, namely whole grilled maitake mushroom, Thai coconut creamed spinach, and saké braised white beans with cilantro. If you can't decide, go for the “Chef Experience” option; you can add a beverage pairing or wash it all down with a handcrafted Mule made with smoked pineapple or a selection from the well-curated collection of saké. The fun continues with desserts, which range from dark chocolate s'mores cake with banana bourbon ice cream to a generous, moist slice of "Mom's" coconut cake.
