Operated by the same family that for years has earned enthusiastic raves from Tijuanans at that city’s La Fonda Roberto’s, this cozy La Jolla restaurant avoids the cliches of Cal-Mex cuisine and serves instead a fine array of regional Mexican dishes. We could make a meal of the chalupitas poblanas, but this appetizer only opens a dinner that can include cactus salad, spiced lamb cooked in banana leaves and crêpes stuffed with squash blossoms.
