La Ong Thai Bistro Restaurant Review:
This corner destination in a small Herndon shopping center attracts big crowds at lunchtime; the reason is the good food. The kitchen takes a few steps out of the traditional Thai-menu box, offering corn fritters, Chiang Mai sausage, and grilled eggplant salad, dishes that seldom appear at the usual Thai restaurants in the area. Even better, they are prepared with care and skill, so everyone gets to sample Thailand’s exotic fare. Where to start? Try the calamari and chicken satay with peanut sauce, then move on to any one of the mains, from crispy pork belly and duck with basil to a stir-fry with pork or chicken with vegetables and a noodle dish or two. Pad thai or Drunken Noodles are good choices. Desserts are limited to mangos with sticky rice. There are gluten-free selections as well.
