La Serenata Gourmet Restaurant Review:

This casual offshoot of since-closed La Serenata de Garibaldi serves the same plantains stuffed with black beans and poblano chile, prawns in a spicy-tangy sauce 'Yucatan'-style, and seasonal green corn tamales. Fresh tortillas encase well-spiced shredded beef. A variety of fresh seafood, such as grilled scallops, mahi mahi and halibut when available, is often accompanied by a spinach sauce and chipotle-infused sweet potato mash. Breakfast is served on weekends with hearty choices that include sweet crêpes flambéed with coconut, as well as savory eggs Benedict served over thick corn sopes rather than the typical English muffin. Whether eating in or taking to go, visit the "dessert depot" for items like tres leches cake, traditional flan or upside-down cranberry walnut pumpkin cake. To drink, it's best to stick with specialty margaritas with flavors like pomegranate, prickly pear and roasted red pepper. Reservations are not accepted, but it's worth the wait.
