It’s not in the classiest part of town, but we make the trip to Larry’s for some of the freshest seafood in Central Florida. Larry himself is in the kitchen, and generally makes the rounds in the family-style dining room at least once every evening. The fish comes from a network of suppliers, many small, family-run businesses. The oysters are from Florida’s Apalachicola Bay, arriving fresh twice weekly. If you start with a bowl of the divine oyster stew, better make that your meal, savoring every sip of the buttery broth and plump oysters. Choose any fish on the menu and ask for it blackened, broiled, grilled or fried, and you can’t go wrong. Side dishes are a little skimpy, but we love the fried green tomatoes and cheese grits, true Southern cooking. There’s a small wine list and icy cold beer, but we go for the fresh lemonade or the bottomless iced tea, sweetened, of course.
