L'Artusi Restaurant Review:
In a surprisingly spacious building on a relatively quiet West Village street, you’ll encounter consistently first-rate Italian eats. Following the success of dell’Anima, the same folks launched this favorite for locals and non-locals alike. L’Artusi is named for Pellegrino Artusi, the first person to put together a collection of pan-Italian recipes. It’s a fitting name, since the menu glides from the tip to the top of the Italian boot, featuring pastas that may sound unfamiliar to the Italian cuisine-novice. Garganelli is blanketed with a rich rabbit ragù. Thick homemade potato gnocchi still shine over the earthy mushroom sauce and whole-wheat pasta, baked with Brussels sprouts and slathered in a béchamel sauce. The 2,500-bottle walk-in wine cellar, naturally, nods to the various wine-producing regions of Italy.
