Founded as a music venue, The Last Resort gathered University of Georgia students who sat along long plank tables in front of pitchers of beer to listen to their favorite groups, and the place hosted many a major performer. Today, it’s a much different establishment. Handy for east metro Atlantans, Last Resort Grill is now famous for its singularly tasty vegetarian cooking; black beans bring protein to many of these dishes, including a black bean burger. Flavors swing between the South and the Southwest: there's a pozole on the lunch menu and fried green tomatoes for a dinner starter. Dinner entrées stay at or under $20, although a few are market priced. Small plates include a duo of crab cakes at a cost that doesn't break a ten-spot. Desserts are usually worth considering. The wine list is wide-ranging, offering selections from numerous regions at good prices, and many by the glass. Coffee is from Jittery Joe's, a top local roaster.
