What may impress you most here is the intimacy of the room and its slightly posh décor. The brick and wood walls, plank floors, lace-curtained windows and fireplace of this townhouse suggest gentility, and the front bricked patio is a decorous place to alight for an al fresco meal. Problem is, the room feels cramped, and we wonder how the staff navigate without tripping over chair legs. The menu offers an affordable though not inexpensive array of dishes, among which the crab-cake sandwich with fresh, hot frites makes an outstanding midday repast. You might start with the classic French onion soup, which has citrus undertones and plenty of smooth, rich melted cheese swirled through it. Dinners star rack of lamb, a veal chop and pepper-crusted tuna or a bouillabaisse. The impressive wedge of chocolate mousse cake elicits ohs and ahs, so save room for it. Overall, there’s a satisfying mix of French and American flavors; however, there’s talk of a move toward an all Provençal-style cuisine.
