Nestled within the Stonehedge Inn & Spa, a European-style country manor north of Boston, Left Bank Restaurant offers seasonal cuisine created exclusively with locally sourced New England ingredients. The ever-changing menu features wines from the property's on-site cave that contains more than 100,000 bottles. From wine tastings to prix-fixe meals and pairings, dinners are an ideal introduction for novices to the many unique flavors of wine or an opportunity for connoisseurs to indulge in their favorite vintage, like a 2010 Château de Beaucastel. Do not be intimidated by the wine collection, as the knowledgeable staff will assist with selections that start off with familiar California finds and range to more expensive French bottles. To begin, we like the herbed goat cheese croquettes, wild mushroom and Brie flatbread, and the crisp Thai calamari served swimming in a sweet coconut lemon grass sauce. You can never go wrong with the grilled beef tenderloin, rich braised lamb ragù atop a bed of soft pappardelle, or the pan-roasted swordfish with sautéed baby bok choy. Save room for the molten chocolate cake with brandy cherries. The restaurant is also open for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, as well as a Sunday brunch where appetizers, specialties and desserts are presented buffet-style.
