: Malasadas are a Portuguese-style donut made from deep-fried sweet dough rolled in sugar. It is a popular treat on the islands, and Leonard's prepares some of the best. Their original malasadas are lighter than air and covered with sugar, while newer versions are dusted with cinnamon or li hing sugar, or filled with assorted puddings. A rotating flavor of the month might include pineapple, guava or mango. The other specialty here is the Portuguese sweet bread that is light, moist and good for French toast, or used in a sandwich with curried chicken salad.
