THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Lettus Restaurant Review:

Mark Lewis and Matthew Guelke are providing people with an unpretentious introduction to healthful organic food---most of the items at Lettus are organic and nearly everything is optionally vegetarian, which means skipping the roasted chicken or fresh, sustainable seafood such as wild salmon or crab that comes in a handful of the dishes. Chef Sascha Weiss has been on the forefront of organic cuisine for 15 years, cooking at hallowed halls such as Millennium and Roxanne’s. The space is welcoming and comfortable with wood-slat ceilings, blonde wood tables and chairs, and sage green velveteen banquettes. The garden burger is one of the best we’ve had---a patty made from lentils, mushrooms, beets, cashews and bulgur wheat with a brown, crunchy crust and a moist inside that will make you forget the last sawdust burger you tried. Salads are generous but not too big. A seasonal mix of farm fresh greens, sweet ripe strawberries and rough-chopped almonds in strawberry vinaigrette offers the perfect balance of sweet and tart. For breakfast, try the Brooklyn plate---two free-range eggs scrambled with smoked salmon and green onions served with a bagel and cream cheese, cucumbers, red onion, tomatoes and capers. Panini sandwiches include grilled tofu, portobello mushroom, and chili-lime chicken breast with goat cheese. Desserts are made in-house and smoothies are made to-order.
