The revitalization of downtown Oakland is witnessed in a new crop of contemporary restaurants. LMNO maybe the edgiest among them with its industrial décor, intriguing name and boldly designed menus. Chef Jeff Murphy, who hails from such local favorites as California Café and Il Fornaio, serves a California-fresh menu that gathers up the best of local ingredients and transforms them into well-conceived, satisfying dishes. Standout starters include a warm goat cheese and pear salad adorned with spiced pecans and a Caesar salad with crisp Parmesan frico. For entrées, try the savory bread pudding laden with juicy chicken, tomatoes and Brie, or the prawn and scallop pasta topped with a spicy Indonesian sambal sauce. Traditionalists will enjoy the filet mignon with rosemary jus or macaroni with five cheeses.
