Mad Mex Restaurant Review

: The big Burrito Restaurant Group's beloved chain claims prime real estate with this North Hills plot, where parking spots are scarce, interior lighting is dim and the noise level is high. Late-night patrons enjoy bargain pricing on the 22-ounce margarita. Fajitas join the Cal-Mex menu of dips, wings, wraps, enchiladas, burritos, quesadillas, entrée salads, sides and desserts. There’s no claim to authenticity, but ingredients are fresh, frequently local and chef-approved. Pepita hummus with toasted flatbread, carnitas burritos and grilled tacos reflect the kitchen’s creative strategy. To accommodate vegans, burritos can be made with vegan cheese and tofu sour cream. Desserts all contain vanilla ice cream --- in a bowl with hot fudge or strawberry sauce, atop a Mexican chocolate brownie, or rolled in a burrito with "Saturday" and "sundae" style mix-ins. Weekday happy hour attracts a crowd. The no-reservation policy means either go early or go thirsty and progress, while you wait, through numerous craft beers.
