Downtown’s Fourth Street Live! District caters to the convention crowd, and the Maker’s Mark Bourbon House & Lounge attracts its share of out-of-towners looking for a Kentucky bourbon experience. With more than 80 bourbons, ryes and Tennessee whiskeys from which to choose, both the neophyte and whiskey connoisseur will be pleased. And yes, if you have come here with a wine-drinking friend, there is a list. Just dropping in for a drink and a snack? Share an antipasti plate (country ham included in addition to traditional Italian meats and cheeses) or pork meatballs. At dinner, entrées include a selection of steaks, coffee-rubbed pork tenderloin, shrimp and grits with bourbon cream sauce and venison medallions. Bourbon balls (bourbon-filled chocolates) are the must-have dessert. The vibe is high-energy (especially on weekends), with a cranked up sound system and the brightly back-lit bar showcasing a wall of amber bottles. Sophisticated contemporary décor is a study in smooth leather upholstery and polished wood paneling.
