Mama Dip's Restaurant Review:
Cookbook writer and local legend Mildred Council (aka Mama Dip) has supervised this café for fifty years. The homey atmosphere is enhanced by half-shuttered windows, hardwood floors and wooden tables and chairs. Dip’s puts some "South in your mouth" with an unchanging menu of traditional Southern staples such as fried chicken livers, chicken fried steak, Brunswick stew, chitterlings, and fried pork chops heaped with Southern sides: stewed collards, mac ’n’ cheese, black-eyed peas, squash casserole and sweet potatoes. Fried chicken sets a crunchy-crusted standard that's hard to beat. Don’t fill up to the point where you don't have room for some pecan pie or banana pudding. For a souvenir, check out Mama Dip’s three cookbooks sold here, as well as her own cornbread mix and jarred sauces and preserves.
