THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Maroc Restaurant Review:

This fabric-draped and dimly lit salon is one of the more thoughtfully designed restaurants in the Upper Haight, a look the owners describe as souk chic. The front half is dominated by a bar with pendant lamps of colored glass, while the back room has bench seating with pillows, a tented ceiling, and leatherette-wrapped tables topped with a fresh flower and a Moroccan tea glass lit with a candle. Start with a fruit-infused mojito or caipirinha from the fully stocked bar while mulling over the small plates menu of savory-sweet dishes from Morocco by way of California. Dishes arrive in petite terra-cotta bowls and exotic tagines, and the choice of small or large sizes and affordable pricing make it easy to graze and share. The smoky eggplant caviar purée begs to be spread on the lightly salted house-made flatbread, a creamy salt cod brandade is fluffy and flavorful, juicy lamb meatballs are rich with spices, and the delicate prawn and scallop fish cigars crackle in their flaky phyllo wrapper. House-made ice cream can include adventurous flavors, like one evening's delightful offering of a deep-red beet sorbet.
