The Marshal Restaurant Review:

This 26-seat gastro emporium just west of the Theater District makes a name for itself with satisfying meat dishes, stand-out salads and vegetables, and lush desserts. Narrow but cozy, The Marshal puts into practice its philosophy of buying and preparing organically and locally, with menus that change frequently using primarily New York-sourced ingredients. All cooked dishes emerge from the brick oven, which also turns out a crusty French bread that is a must-order. Start with the roasted Brussels sprouts salad or bourbon-planked Maine scallops, both generous enough to share. Skip the fish entrées and dive into the tastier red wine-braised short ribs or bone-in chicken breast stuffed with goat cheese. Knowledgeable servers will suggest local wines, mostly from upstate or the North Fork. A finishing touch that will remind you of your childhood is the sundae, made with rich vanilla ice cream.
