Maypop Restaurant Review

: It is no coincidence that a Maypop is a brightly-hued, lively passionflower. That description runs parallel with the upscale dining experience at Maypop, a chic glass-enclosed eatery in the burgeoning South Market neighborhood. The setting with clean-lined, minimalistic d├ęcor is ideal for chef-owner Michael Gulotta's imaginative menu of Asian-influenced dishes with a New Orleans twist. It plays out with a nice selection of noodle options, such as the wok-fried egg noodle with jumbo shrimp in turmeric curry. Other items border on straightforward comfort food, such as the slow-roasted pork belly with cheese grits. On weekends, Maypop offers a dim sum brunch. Try the spicy lamb dumplings with black cumin, but don't overlook the bacon and scallion pancakes with oysters. Wines have been carefully selected with a global theme, and effectively complement the varied menu. For dessert, enjoy a lemon ricotta cheesecake with spiced plums.
