This rather cavernous Indian restaurant fields a huge menu, ranging from traditional pakoras (vegetable fritters) to vegetarian fare. The buffet at lunch presents 20 dishes, giving newcomers to the cuisine a chance to survey what it offers. We suggest the eggplant options, such as bagara baingan, which enfolds eggplant in a creamy tomato sauce. But an entire feast of vegetable plates could easily be assembled, starting with sambar, the classic vegetable stew with lentils and coconut. Among lamb selections, the methi malal lamb sets chunks of lamb in a yogurt-based curry with fenugreek greens. Familiar fare includes a very good rendition of butter chicken. Guests may order either à la carte or as thali (with sides including raita, naan or poori, rice with peas and carrots, chutneys, daal and dessert for a few dollars more --- check out the ras malai dumplings). Dosa are a specialty, or come for Indian Chinese food. For quaffing, choose one of several Indian beers, some in bottles large enough to share.
