Here’s a novel idea: An Indian restaurant with a quotient for the fashionable. Mehfil sidesteps the usual visual clichés with a room that uses dangling cobalt blue lamps, booths as tall as giraffes and industrial grays to inject a little bit of life into what is otherwise just an above-average purveyor of everybody’s house of curry favorites. Naturally, you can get your vindaloo and korma as spicy or spiceless as you like it, but the real intrigue lies in a handful of Southern Indian specialties---dosai and uttapam, mainly---that are essentially savory crêpes like none you’ve had before. Bargain shoppers should note that the prices at Mehfil are a good buck or two below nearby competitors.
