THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Meli Restaurant Review:
Meli means “honey” in Greek, and this likeable bistro, a member of the Kali’s Restaurant Group, generates lots of good buzz. Bee puns are almost irresistible, as the upstairs dining room cultivates a beehive motif with its honeycombed ceilings and metalwork, and many of the dishes, including savories, include at least a touch of the sweet stuff. The name and the ownership may be Greek, but the menu is American with European grace notes; the bountifully portioned entrées include honey-glazed salmon, rib-eye with potato-chèvre latke and seasonal pasta primavera. As is fitting for a honey-themed restaurant, the dessert menu gets special attention, so save room for temptations that range from the biggest baklava in town to a glamorous chocolate bombe sprinkled with edible gold. Hot jazz (as well as those luscious desserts) is served up Friday and Saturday nights in the downstairs Minoan Room. Happy hour, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, features $6 plates of the kitchen’s most eclectic fare, such as tuna sliders, pork carnitas tacos, and a chorizo corndog.
