THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED 17th Street Cafe Restaurant Review:
This cozy eatery has been a favorite Montana Avenue dining destination for years due to moderate prices, an array of intriguing dishes and fairly good wines. The subdued, earth-toned dining room is a pleasant refuge for many of the café's high-profile regulars, steering out of the fast lane for an evening of straightforward fare. Pizzas, pastas and big salads---Chinese chicken, blue cheese-walnut, yellowtail---are especially noteworthy. There’s a winning take on gazpacho, containing Florida rock shrimp and tortilla chips, garnished with sour cream. Entrées have Mediterranean style, including grilled New York steak that’s marinated in whole grain, yellow and Dijon mustards; roasted lamb loin stuffed with spinach, feta and pine nuts; and Lake Superior whitefish basted with leeks, mushrooms, lemon and dill. If they have apple walnut cobbler, order it.
