THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Banh Mi So #1- Saigon Gourmet Restaurant Review:
The sign proclaims “Best spring rolls in St. Louis,” and while we won’t argue---they are fresh and tasty, for sure---the rest of the menu often tempts us away from them. Start under local favorites, with items like steamed rice crêpes and a fine shrimp curry. The banh mi, Vietnamese sandwiches, are consistently good. To an American eye, there may seem to be a too-light hand with the filling, but these are big on taste, especially the pork meatball and “triple crown” pork versions. (However, if you’re not convinced, you can double the meat for an additional charge.) The beer list includes major American and some Asian brands like Saigon, Sapporo and Tsingtao. The restaurant is small and immaculately tidy. Because its sandwiches travel so well, there’s also a brisk carryout business.
