Bar Sardine Restaurant Review:

This corner bar and restaurant was once called Chez Sardine and offered Japanese-inflected fare. But owner Gabriel Stulman abruptly closed that venture in mid-2014 and transformed the space into more of a cocktail bar that served food. The menu may be shorter at this incarnation, but there’s still some good snacking to be enjoyed. Deviled eggs get the Asian treatment with soy sauce and black garlic, while the satisfying Gruyère grilled cheese sports with eggplant-tomato tapenade and beer mustard. The Fedora burger, a re-creation from another Stulman restaurant around the corner, is a messy delight. The wine list, with selections by the glass and the bottle, is short and mostly French. Cocktails include some fun, whimsical libations, like the “What’s Your Favorite John Hughes Movie?” (tequila blanco, Bordeaux blanc and fresh grapefruit). In the warm weather months, the windows come down and Bar Sardine makes for a great place to people-watch in the celebrity-studded West Village.
