With an atmosphere marked by terra cotta colored walls, North African furnishings, fabrics and decorative accents, Barbes exudes charm everywhere. The Moroccan and French menu features dishes from both countries and some that reflect a blending of the two culinary styles. Among the former are appetizers of duck confit with roasted beets and lentils in a balsamic vinaigrette and sinewy chopped crab seasoned with assorted Moroccan spices, along with classic main courses of meat and seafood brochettes, and tagines of slow-cooked seasoned rice with fish, meat and vegetable combinations. For French-inspired choices, choose the hanger steak cooked in a red wine sauce and served with french fries, or opt for the duck breast flavored with honey and complemented by seasonal vegetables. Desserts include crème brûlée, a light and airy chocolate soufflé, and pastilla au lait.
