Barcelona Tapas Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant & décor: Chef/owner Xavier Laurentino’s tapas-centered eatery is a warmly lit, intimate establishment with hand-crafted carved wood tables and chairs and a hand-tiled bar. Laurentino even created the carvings with his own hands.
Likes: Garlic tomato bread with manchego cheese.
Dislikes: Minimal street parking.
Food & Drinks: Typical dishes on the ever-evolving menu are shrimp in olive oil, garlic and paprika; piquillo peppers stuffed with salmon pâté; and “bombas,” potato croquettes with spicy beef filling. The chorizo in a sherry casserole is slightly addictive, as are the Mediterranean mussels. The wine list achieves a nice balance of light whites and substantial reds, including Spanish varieties that complement such hearty items as paella and rack of lamb. Barcelona Tapas’ bartender mixes a mean sangría. Finish with the "Sinful Vanilla Flan" for dessert. The best part of the experience may be Laurentino himself, who meets his guests and spends quality time at each table.
