The Black Labrador Restaurant Review:
Known for decades by regulars as simply "The Black Lab," this is one of Houston’s oldest English pubs. And make no mistake: the spirits and grub are authentic. The cozy, lace-curtained spot with a fireplace in winter offers up good fish ‘n’ chips, bubble and squeak, shepherd’s pie and raspberry trifle. But there’s also some pretty decent American food, including burgers, soups and salads. One of our go-to dishes is the baked potato soup topped with cheese and bacon crumbles. A full bar features lots of British beer, Pimm’s Cups and Black and Tans. The Lab is a watering hole for the nearby university students and Montrose neighbors, and on sunny afternoons it’s a good place to take the kids to play on the patio with its big chessboard. It’s also a popular dinner spot for those heading upstairs for an evening of smooth jazz at the piano bar called Cézanne.
