This repurposed 74-acre estate (formerly a circa 1911 poorhouse) features a multitude of attractions ranging from a concert venue to a hotel, plus a casual brewpub surrounded by lovely gardens. It's also home to the McMenamin empire's most ambitious restaurant. Its rustic dining room blends early American and turn-of-the-century touches with contemporary flair. The kitchen uses seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs from Edgefield's organic gardens. Dinner choices may range from a green bean and mushroom salad with truffle vinaigrette to seared sea scallops with smoked bacon, or lemon ricotta ravioli and slow-cooked wild boar with chestnut purée. For breakfast or brunch, try the breakfast sandwich: a flaky croissant filled with scrambled eggs, ham, avocado and Gruyère, or simply order the house-smoked salmon hash. The estate boasts its own coffee roaster, distillery and winery --- go for the Pinot Gris or Cabernet --- and, of course, its best-known product, house-brewed beers.
