Bluewater Avalon Restaurant Review:

Bluewater Avalon on Catalina Island boasts a prime location right over the water, with a wraparound patio featuring views of the harbor and iconic Catalina Casino. (Such a setting begs for a Mai Tai, if you're an imbiber.) Fishing poles reinforce the nautical theme inside. There's a bar at the entrance, followed by a few booths and several tables. Begin with tuna poke, calamari fritti or the red rock crab cocktail with house-made cocktail sauce. If you're looking for a simple meal of fresh seafood, you'll find it here. Choose from selections like Pacific snapper or swordfish with sides of dill rice, scalloped potatoes, seasonal vegetables or sautéed spinach. Other mains include beer-battered fish 'n' chips, prawn linguine and a San Francisco-style cioppino with shrimp, scallops, clams, mussels and crabmeat in a marinara sauce. During lunch, go for blackened mahi, shrimp or fried cod tacos served on corn or flour tortillas and topped with shredded cabbage, avocado, tomato, salsa and cotija cheese. For dessert, diners will find java mud pie, crème brûlée and caramel turtle cheesecake.
