Among the wasteland of pizza joints and bodegas on Lexington Avenue, Bocado Café invites you to dine in a grown-up environment. A hybrid bakery, espresso bar and take-out establishment with a restaurant in the back, the place morphs into a candle-lit Italian bistro in the evening. That’s when it applies its sandwich and bakery creativity to pastas and dishes like the grilled avocado appetizer with charred plum tomatoes, roasted corn, arugula and lime aïoli; caramelized Brussels sprouts with chorizo; and fragrant brick grilled rosemary chicken. Plan to follow these with the baba au rhum or crunchy biscotti with a creamy Intelligentsia espresso.
