Bread Line Restaurant Review:

Mark Furstenberg, of Marvelous Market fame, started the bread craze in DC, and launched this specialty bakery and sandwich shop. Now under different ownership, business should continue much as usual. Don't come expecting to have a relaxing lunch, though, for this bare-bones shop near the White House is usually crowded and a bit chaotic, even after the main lunch hour. You'll find scones and muffins for breakfast; soups, salads and sandwiches (don't miss the BLT on brioche during tomato season) for lunch; and a platter of English farmhouse cheeses and a small selection of wines and beers for an after-work or pre-theater snack. Sadly, it's closed for dinners and on weekends, so order a platter of knishes, empanadas, samosas and a baguette to take home. The daily specials menu offers different choices according to the day of the week, including varying salads, sandwiches, piadine, pizzas and empanadas.
