Broderick Roadhouse Restaurant Review:

Just a hop, skip and a jump across the river from downtown Sacramento, Broderick takes the American roadhouse to the extreme. Housed in a nineteenth-century building that once served as a general store, the place lacks the million dollar design many new restaurants bank on these days. Instead, vintage kitsch is the décor, with a large wooden bar and low ceilings creating a dark and intimate vibe. The food (of local Wicked ’Wich food truck fame) is a no-holds-barred approach to classic American diner food. Don't try to count calories. Burgers and fries are the specialty, including the Johnny Cash burger with smoked pepper-crusted beef, apple wood-smoked bacon, house-pickled peppers, fried onions and barbecue sauce. Other options include a ground duck burger with roasted pear and fig chutney, and a barbecue tofu sandwich. The hand-cut fries are soaked overnight and fried to order --- have them naked or topped with buffalo blue cheese or mushroom and Gorgonzola sauce. Weekend brunches offer chicken and waffles and sweet potato duck hash.
