Cafe Caturra Restaurant Review:

Before Starbucks let wine share counter space with coffee, there was Café Caturra, a Doolittle-esque “push-me-pull-you” half café and half wine bar. Order soups, salads, panini and milkshakes at one counter by day (or night) or head for the wine bar in the evening (or in the daylight) where they’ll happily pour you a taste before you select wines by the glass or bottle or from the taps that change periodically. Pair them with light bites including charcuterie boards and cheese platters or heartier options such as charred beef, veal and pork meatballs. Along with the regulars, chalkboard specials may recommend Southwestern vegetable tacos, Hawaiian barbecue sliders or watermelon gazpacho. Breakfast might be The Pacino (two eggs, ham, tomato, provolone, spicy mustard and mayo on croissant or bagel). Even when the food reminds you that this is a chain --- the vinaigrette cloys and the blue cheese rides a bit clumsily in the raspberry walnut salad --- its freshness, along with the friendliness of the waitstaff who take your order, run food and clear plates, more than compensates. A server might even come by and ask if you want your dessert --- perhaps a sweet-tooth-satisfying chocolate top (shortbread cookie iced with chocolate) --- heated. And best of all, the roasted-on-premises coffee is always available. Other locations.
