Cafe Twenty Eight Restaurant Review:

Located in the restored Linden Hills firehouse, the sunlit, cozy room brims with the cheerful chatter of moms and kids by day. (No wonder: along with a decent kids’ menu, the Wild Rumpus children's bookstore and Creative Kidstuff toy store are nearby.) By night, however, the candlelit space fills with couples sipping wine or local Surly beer. True to its progressive neighborhood roots, the politically correct menu highlights local produce, promotes sustainable agriculture and is vegetarian-friendly, with dishes like the Gruyère and onion quiche and the roasted butternut gnocchi with pear purée, coconut curry and crème fraîche. Personally, though, we like coming here for the organic burgers served four ways; try the roasted beets and goat cheese variation for something unusual. You also should plan to save room for dessert: oven-warm chocolate cake is homespun and served with a scoop of local Sebastian Joe's ice cream alongside.
