Whether you come to this Beacon Hill spot for breakfast, lunch or a midday snack, Café Vanille is sure to please. It's fun to play the Parisian flaneur over a strong cup of coffee and fresh pastries while watching students, Brahmin descendants and guidebook-toting tourists saunter down Charles Street. You’ll find all the traditional French baked goods on the menu, including country-style butter croissants and crusty baguettes, but also a few nice surprises like the sandwich with prosciutto, roasted red pepper and mozzarella. The Boston cream pie is a standout for dessert.
