City House Restaurant Review:

Because he's lived in Italy for a time, chef-owner Tandy Wilson knows his way around Italian cuisine. But his most valuable assets are near his Germantown kitchen: herbs from the back garden, handmade pasta and an in-house charcuterie. Expect to find a selection of Italian classics shot through with Southern reinventions and even family recipes. The Nashville native changes the menu seasonally, but you’ll likely find trout, catfish or roasted chicken with jezebel sauce, cornbread gnocchi and pork snacks on Sundays, like belly with peaches and biscuits. We also recommend the wood-fired pizza: anchovy with sliced tomato, pecorino, garlic and chilies. Pastry chef Rebekah Turshen is one of the best in town, changing the lineup regularly to showcase fruits and fresh takes on nostalgic standards, such as peach ice box cake with buttermilk cornmeal crumbs, coffee panna cotta and Prosecco-poached pickled peaches. The wine list is loaded with artisanal Italian bottles and includes some good values. The dining room can get loud, so in warmer months head outside to the screened patio and soak in the well-weathered 19th-century architecture of Nashville's first suburb.
