Cochon Butcher Restaurant Review:

Chef Donald Link has become the go-to guy in New Orleans for authentic, down-home Cajun cooking. He proved his Louisiana country realness with his flagship restaurant Cochon, but just around the corner is Cochon Butcher, where the fare is somewhat lighter and quite a bit more reasonable. In addition to the standout mac 'n' cheese dish, here Link offers brisket sliders, Carolina-style barbecued pork, Cuban sandwiches, and house-made hot boudin, a Louisiana staple. We're not pretending it's all good for you --- it would be hard to argue the nutritional value of a bacon melt with collard greens on white bread. But it sure is a nice guilty pleasure, best concluded with bacon pralines for dessert. In the same compact space is a full butcher shop with high-quality meats, and an equally abbreviated list of wines and beers. Best of all? Most menu items are under $10.
