Convention Grill Restaurant Review:

The first thing you notice when you walk into this Edina diner is the mighty grill, double-sized and black, steaming away under an enormous vent. The next, a waitress in a sharp, white apron hustling across the dining room, a tray of silver malt cans held high over her head. Throwback '50s music plays in the background, real cherry cokes are on the menu and there is neon everywhere, but for all the diner trappings the Convention Grill never stoops to kitsch. Instead, expect a delightfully authentic burger joint experience, with hand-helds so juicy they all but fall apart; salty, skin-on fries; and old-fashioned lime phosphates. It also serves a respectable meatloaf and chicken sandwiches, though we rarely bother. One of the great joys of the Convention Grill: watching the waitress expertly tap out your malt, thick as lava, into a fluted glass and setting down the can as if to say, "Try that at home, mister."
