About the restaurant: Cuba de Ayer’s ambience suggests Havana in pre-Castro days; its name translates as “Cuba of yesterday”; and its message reads plainly: authentic Cuban cuisine.
Food & Drinks: Try the appetizer of tostones rellenos, or stuffed and fried green plantains, and the flaky-tender empanadas filled with seasoned ground beef. If you are looking for lighter fare, consider the always-popular Cuban sandwich with its roasted pork, cheese and pickle. But chances are the Cuban classic rope vieja with sides of fried yuca and fried sweet plantains will win the day. And whatever you decide to order in this small, friendly eatery, save room for its version of tres leches cake, a dense, sweet milk-sodden finale.
