Washingtonians who remember Brasserie Les Halles of days gone past may be surprised to see its replacement: an immense setting with a glass-enclosed wine cellar in the middle of the dining area and a distinctively all-American menu that includes cheesesteak egg rolls, a lamb burger and veal meatloaf. Also check out the signature steaks and numerous seafood offerings in the evening; we like the crab cakes with lobster sauce. The menu sets the tone for a convivial social, business or political meal with friends or colleagues. Indeed, the atmosphere is quite jovial, bolstered perhaps by the bar’s craft cocktails, though the wine list, of course, merits exploration. Possibly one of the best desserts in town is the unique coconut cream pie, which consists of coconut custard crowned with a giant mound of coconut whipped cream.
