El Gaucho Bellevue Restaurant Review:
Start your evening with a martini to enjoy an El Gaucho standard, listen to live piano music, and settle into the enormous dining room with soaring two-story windows. For a more intimate dinner, request a leather banquette on the half-mezzanine where it’s also quieter. This Seattle classic is renowned for its steaks and all are properly grilled, although expensive. Sides are designed to be shared, and include favorites such as lobster-mashed potatoes, mushroom risotto and sautéed spinach. In addition to the beef --- a sirloin burger on a focaccia bun is offered at lunch --- the spicy Wicked Shrimp, prawns poached in lobster broth, brochette of grilled scampi and diver sea scallops will please seafood fans. The tableside preparation of Caesar salad is an El Gaucho ritual. For a dramatic ending, indulge in the flambéed bananas Foster. A topnotch wine list enhances the experience, as does the inconspicuous but attentive staff.
