Southern California is hardly overflowing with Portuguese restaurants, so this delightful family-operated café is worth knowing about. Much of the menu is filled with pastas and panini (occasionally accented with chourico, Portugal's version of chorizo), but the owners really celebrate their heritage with daily Portuguese specials like carne estufada (roast sirloin with a sweet pepper glaze) and the small nation's ubiquitous bacalhau (salt-preserved cod). Feijoada is a traditional pork stew filled with beans, cabbage and carrots over rice, and at breakfast, the kitchen makes linguiça (spicy Portuguese sausage) omelets. House-made desserts such as bread pudding and a flan-topped chocolate cake are worth considering. Dishes are artfully plated and delivered to a casual dining room that hints of good taste.
