Firestone’s Culinary Tavern Restaurant Review:
Settled into the shell of a former department store---the old-fashioned kind with pressed tin ceilings, and wooden floors and upstairs railing---this retro eatery sits square in the center of old-town Frederick. Stop by for a homey, all-American Sunday brunch, a decent meal of stuffed french toast---the filling, cream cheese---topped with a raspberry coulis. That dish we recommend; the restaurant’s version of the classic Monte Cristo we do not---it’s really nothing more than a glorified grilled cheese sandwich. Try the commendable crab meat-and-artichoke dip laced with plenty of cheese, baked oysters, steamed mussels and assorted soups and salads. Cheesecake lovers will appreciate the house-made version swirled with a raspberry purée.
