Flying Fish Cafe Restaurant Review:

Leave behind the carnival atmosphere of Disney's BoardWalk when you step into this stylishly casual restaurant where the décor conjures up dreams of the deep blue sea. Giant shimmering fish scales hug the walls. Delicate lights dangle from oversize fish hooks. Chef Tim Keating has fun in the open kitchen, turning out creations like the crispy calamari and rock shrimp with sesame seeds and Japanese togarashi pepper; the crab cake; and yellowfin tuna tartare and tempura-style tuna sushi roll. Start with the chef’s dégustation of artisanal cheeses featuring selections like six-month aged Midnight Moon goat cheese or Gorgonzola dolce. Proceed to the mesclun salad, which uses fresh greens from the nearby greenhouse at Epcot Land Pavilion. Both the Idaho potato-wrapped red snapper over leek fondue and the char-crusted New York strip steak with roasted potatoes are year-round favorites, but keep an eye out for seasonal specials like the braised pork belly and the ever-changing pastas. For dessert, there’s a caramelized banana napoleon with textured layers of phyllo, banana mousse, crème caramel, bitter chocolate, and an exotic fruit coulis. Plenty of wines are available by the glass, and the place mixes a fine martini.
