Food Fair By Diego Restaurant Review:
This artsy neighborhood spot at Beverly and Fairfax offers upscale comfort food and a stylish, cozy atmosphere. Local art hangs on the walls, and soul tunes fill the space between the casual conversation of regulars ranging from older Fairfax couples to hipsters. Formerly the sous chef at O-Bar, chef-owner Diego Balam has a light touch and an eye for a well-crafted plate. Homemade gnocchi is a nice start. The mixed greens salad sounds modest, but it’s elevated by crispy bacon and onions, a poached egg, and sherry thyme vinaigrette. A dry-aged Angus burger piled with bacon and onion rings can hold its own, while sandwiches (grilled goat cheese with onion jam, or grilled vegetables with smoked provolone) also stand out. Classic selections include roasted chicken, garlic-marinated pork chop, creamy Gouda-laden mac ‘n’ cheese and spiced buttered sweet yams.
