Girasole Restaurant Review:
Situated along a peaceful country road miles from DC, this classic Italian restaurant with the sunny name of Girasole (translated as “sunflower” in Italian) features a Culinary Institute of America-trained chef who determinedly makes everything from scratch and sources most ingredients locally. The result: a high-end eatery with a pastoral setting. In warm weather its outside terrace becomes like a greenhouse; inside, the large picture windows that encircle the main dining room let the outside in so guests feel nature’s tug as well. But most diners will be concentrating on the food: a bread basket overflowing with fresh-baked goods; appetizers such as buffalo mozzarella with grilled eggplant; entrées of veal scaloppine or beef tenderloin with mushrooms, all capped off with assorted pastries and gelati. The wine list and cocktail selections should be examined for some upscale favorites. True, a meal here means a lengthy drive, but the quality is undeniable.
