Grand Lux Cafe Restaurant Review:

Get ready to stand in line with the rest of the city and tourists for platters of contemporary comfort foods. This grandiose café, occupying the former premises of Houston's FAO Schwarz toy store, feels straight out of Vegas. But the elegant fantasyland style is mostly for fun and doesn't actually reflect menu prices or pretentiousness. If you know anything about the successful The Cheesecake Factory, you'll recognize many of the same dishes and the similarly huge portions. Expect several types of burgers, myriad pastas and an assortment of chicken selections. Salads are creative and substantial. We also like the zesty Asian nachos to share with a group. But the best thing here is dessert. If you can wait, choose the made-to-order warm chocolate brownie with a molten chocolate center or, if you want something cool and quick, go for the luscious banana cream cake. Do stop by on the weekends for a brunch of red velvet pancakes and a strawberry Bellini.
