Great Northern Tavern Restaurant Review:

Like any tavern worth its salt, this expansive tavern-cum-restaurant is anchored by a large, mahogany bar overseen by capable bartenders who mix potent cocktails. During the week, a well-priced happy hour attracts workers from neighboring office buildings. Resembling a large dining hall in a nineteenth-century train station, the restaurant touts an open kitchen, comfortable high-backed booths along each wall and tables in the middle. Bold railroad graphics and antler chandeliers complete the décor. The straight-ahead American menu isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s a decent assemblage of familiar comfort food standards. Start with the spinach and artichoke dip, the crispy calamari or the iceberg lettuce wedge. Sandwiches plated with house-made potato chips are a specialty, and the fish ‘n chips plate regularly sells out. Try the apple pie à la mode or the ice cream cake for dessert.
