The Grill on the Alley Restaurant Review:

A small door in an alley on Dayton Way leads you into this popular power lunch and neighborhood dinner spot, opened in 1984. Decorated in the classic bistro style with a black-and-white tiled floor, mahogany chairs and partitions, The Grill on the Alley maintains its tradition of serving American cuisine with steaks, chops and seafood. This place has long been coveted by entertainment industry powerbrokers, and many agents and studio execs conduct business from the same tables they’ve occupied for years. Start with a shrimp cocktail, crab cake or steak tartare, which may be followed by the Grill Cobb salad or Caesar salad. There is a long list of potatoes and onions to accompany your filet mignon, New York steak, veal chop, poached salmon or pan-fried Dover sole. Chicken and pasta dishes are offered, as well as old-school favorites such as calf’s liver and potpie. Desserts, like New York cheesecake, fudge brownie pie or Key lime pie, are generously portioned. Enjoy the snappy service from a veteran, highly professional staff who will also guide you through the cocktail and wine lists, the latter offering a nice selection of steak-compatible reds from Old and New Worlds. Afternoons on The Alley, from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. daily, feature affordable “chef bites” --- prime rib sliders, lobster martinis and blue cheese fries --- and a $10 build-your-own martini special.
