Gyu-Kaku Restaurant Review:
The people behind this popular Japanese yakiniku chain are betting on its tamer and more upscale version of Korean barbecue. This means much less use of chili and the addition of sauces like pesto, teriyaki and garlic butter. The dining experience here is fun and well-suited to Japanese-American tastes, and the place is packed with thirty-somethings grilling seafood and beef at their tables. Diners can choose between saké, soju and wine, with no really distinctive choices in any category, but a few decent tipples in each. All-you-can-eat specials can be found at both lunch ($19.95) and dinner ($29.95)---the deluxe “prime” version ($39.95) includes all-you-can-drink Champagne. Other locations.
